One of my other passions is golf. In many ways it's like painting. It is a one person sport. You have only yourself to blame for missed shots (or missed brush strokes) and the satisfaction of a good game (a good painting) is unparalleled excitement--just as when a painting comes together! Watercolor, as a medium, is an adventure in itself and you never really know how a painting will turn out until it's done. It's a challenge, but that's why I love it.
I have never had any formal education in art other than the required classes in junior high school. I have taken workshops and classes over the last 12 years from some very accomplished and well known artists and have tried to glean a little bit from each one. They are names in the watercolor art world that are well recognized and each is well established in their own careers. People such as Paul Jackson, Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic, Thomas W. Schaller, Eric Wiegardt, Frank Eber, Bev Jozwiak and Vickie Nelson, David Lobenberg, Kathy Collins, Joe MacKechnie, and Stella Canfield. The latter was the one who really got my motor started in watercolor painting and instilled in me the passion for painting.
Inevitably, "time on the brush" has produced some successes. I've been fortunate in my career (12 years) to have participated in many juried shows, both National and International, and have many won ribbons. I've exhibited paintings in Bulgaria, Albania, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Czech Republic, Italy and Malaysi . My painting "Abandoned Pier", was selected for the 47th National and International Exhibition (Jan-Feb 2017) of the California Watercolor Association. There were over 750 entries and only 80 accepted. I have paintings in several countries around the world in private collections in South Africa, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, Wales, Northern Ireland as well as the United States.
Since we are fortunate enough to spend our winter months in the sunshine of the California desert, I've also participated in several art shows there as well and have won a "best in show" and many ribbons.
I think my paintings are characterized by the use of color and have strong contrasting values. So please, enjoy what you see here and don't hesitate to tell me what you think using the "Contact Me" tab.
